Baptism Messages

Baptism - An Early Next Step

Ken Peet | Psalm 145 | 9/17/2017

Baptism in the early church and throughout the book of Acts was often the first Next Step after trusting Christ.  As baptism is an outward sign of an inward Gospel reality, we celebrate God's saving grace in the lives of those being baptized today, that we might be both encouraged & spurred on in our own walk of faith to taking a Next Step

And Now Why Do You Wait?

Tim Theule | | 1/29/2017

On this baptism Sunday, we recognize together that when we baptize followers of Jesus, we are celebrating a 'visual Gospel' that is a practice rooted in the command of Jesus from the very earliest days of church. Baptism is all over the book of Acts because this is what the followers of Jesus do!

One in Christ

Jeff Jennings | Galatians 3:23-28 | 9/18/2016

In the book of Galatians Paul tells us that we are 'baptized into Christ.' This Sunday we celebrate the faith that God has given to a number of people in our congregation and look to God's Word to see that it is in Christ we find our primary identity, our unity with God, and our unity with one another.

Death to Life

Tim Theule | Ephesians 2:1-6 | 1/24/2016

On this baptism Sunday, we're reminded that God brings dead sinners to life in Jesus Christ.

Celebrating Baptism

Tim Theule | Various Passages | 5/3/2015

It's another Baptism Sunday at Grace . . . a chance to proclaim and celebrate our hope in Jesus together.

Being & Making Disciples of Jesus

Tim Theule | Matthew 28:18-20 | 2/1/2015

Jesus' Great Commission to His Church was "Go and make disciples."  That command has continuing relevance for our lives and our church today.  It's the basis of our practice of baptism and our vision to GO & GROW with the Gospel in a fresh and new ways.

Baptism & Child Dedications

Tim Theule | Various Passages | 5/11/2014

There's a power in concrete spiritual commitments.   God’s Word recognizes and celebrates when God’s people commit themselves to Him and to one another.  Again and again, we see God’s people making “covenants” or relational commitments before the Lord and with one another.  And these commitments are recorded and preserved for us in the Scriptures!  In this message, we recognize and celebrate the commitments we make as a community of faith.

The Lord Gives Life

Tim Theule | Various Passages | 1/20/2013

On this 2013 Sanctity of Life Sunday we celebrate the Lord’s giving of physical life in child dedications and the Lord’s giving of spiritual life in baptism.

Baptism & the Gospel

Tim Theule | | 3/25/2012

Jesus said that we were to make disciples and “baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 28:18-20) Why did Jesus give this command? What is baptism all about? What is supposed to happen when we get baptized ourselves or when we gather to watch baptism? This brief message explores all these questions as an introduction to our Spring 2012 Baptism at GraceSLO.

Baptism Sunday

Ken Peet | | 8/14/2011

Salvation is by faith alone, in Jesus Christ alone. (Eph. 2:1-10) Baptism symbolizes outwardly what has already happened inwardly when a person puts their faith in Jesus.

Baptism 2011: Baptism & Christian Discipleship

Tim Theule | Matthew 18:19-20 | 3/6/2011

Baptism is not optional for the follower of Jesus.  In fact, baptism is built into the Great Commission of Jesus as the first mark of a Christian disciple and the necessary step of obedience.
