Route 66: Wisdom Literature

The Bible is God's BIG Story of grace climaxing in the person and work of Jesus Christ.  Every book in the Bible is one small part of this larger story and is pointing us in some way to Jesus.  Each message in our Route 66 series looks at one of the 66 books of the Bible.  In this part of our series, we look at the 5 books of wisdom.

Song of Solomon

Tim Theule | Song of Solomon 2:8-17 | 11/23/2014

Sexual intimacy has been badly distorted and sadly marred as it's been ripped from its intended context.  Song of Solomon offers a helpful corrective, reminding of us of several important truths about this most delicate and vulnerable area of our lives.

Ecclesiastes

Tim Theule | Ecclesiastes | 11/16/2014

Humankind was built for meaning.  We long for satisfaction and fulfillment.  But our natural tendency is to make good things ultimate things.  The book of Ecclesiastes speaks powerfully to these issues, which is why it's been called 'the most contemporary book in the Bible.'

Proverbs

Tim Theule | Proverbs 1:20-33 | 11/2/2014

As the book of Psalms is a collection of songs and prayers, so the book of Proverbs is a collection of wise sayings.  In this message, we dip our cups into this store of wisdom and explore how Proverbs points us to Jesus Christ.

Psalms

Tim Theule | Psalm 150:1-4 | 10/26/2014

The Book of Psalms is the prayer book of God's people and as such it's occupied a central place in the worship of God's people for a millennia.  In this message we consider the place of Psalms in redemptive history, in our worship together and in our lives today.

Job

Tim Theule | Job 1:1-2:10 | 10/19/2014

Have you ever had a day when you wanted to curl up and die?  Most of us have.  The book of Job is about a man having lots of days like that as he experiences deep and inexplicable suffering.   The book of Job deals with a question we all have asked, 'Why do bad things happen to good people?'

On the Road Again: Introduction to Wisdom Literature

Tim Theule | Proverbs 8 | 10/12/2014

This message is a restart for our Route 66 RoadTrip Across the Bible after a summer break as we head into the Old Testament wisdom books.
